You're talking about masks? As for masks, only 1 bit masks (b and w) are 
supported.  No alpha channels, which is a shame.  So before you make the 
image into rleds, you have to reduce the mask to a bitmap image and take 
care of the fuzziness on the edges.  If you're making your masks by 
rendering your ships with all white textures, this means you should 
probably turn off anti aliasing when doing the mask render.  Otherwise, 
turn off anti aliasing in photo shop with the wand tool or whatever 
you're using to make masks.
